Debate Sketches

Hey all. Sorry I have been M.I.A lately. I am looking to get things started with a bang with sketch group this week and will be sending out an email to all the members.

I have been doing plenty of sketches, but have not been pro-active in scanning them in to post. Here is a sketch I did during the VP debate on Thursday and it's digitally painted version.

Camp Sketching

I went camping this weekend and missed the sketch group. I was glad to hear that Jeremy and Dan picked up the torch and kept the group alive.

I was able to do a little bit of sketching despite being eaten alive by mosquitoes. Also made an art card, a little campfire fairy.

tanning, pens, and copic markers

Nice sketches Gary. love the monkey and that third page of faces especially.

It was hot today, but got some good sketching done i think.
I took my Copic brush tip markers today (grey scale) and used those, think i'll be doing that from now on.
Found a cool little beach/docking area down on the water front, lady was sun tanning there and was kind enough to let me sketch her, good times.

Toned Paper

So I was really digging drawing with the toned paper. While I am out drawing each week I find myself drawing a lot of people, and not a lot of environments. Well, today I really had a lot of fun changing my pace a little bit. Looking forward to many more of these. I have been wanting to improve my environmental abilities. These quick little sketches were great practice. Good times.

beautiful day for sketching

wow this was a really fun day, i feel like i got some fun sketching done. Starting to let go and capture on paper what i remember the person looking like, and capturing their personality, instead of constantly trying to record what they look like line for line.
had alot of fun today.

oh man, how was that? i wanted to go but was out of town. Nice sketches too, i saw the platform down there, figured those vehicles were going for a dunk.

Hi guys, here's some more location sketches. One set is from Union Station, the other from the Portland Art Museum. Drawing on location is so fun! Next week is the zooo. Then it's off to NW 23rd and other Portland spots. Come on out if you get a chance!

Finally getting these up here.
Great turn out, nice suprise having the sand in the city there, gave us lots to sketch. Some lady who was part of the event came by and gave us all stickers for sketching, it was cool.

Sand in the City

Sand sculpting was in full effect today. Made for some fun drawing. I spent my time drawing the crowd and what not... Went home and added some tone/color :)

Sand Castles

It was nice to see so many people at the sketch group today! Pioneer Courthouse Square was packed this due to a sand sculpting competition that was going on. Looking forward to next weeks meet.

Tomorrow

Hey all. I will be sketching downtown at the Pioneer Courthouse Square, on the stairs. I will be the one with the sketch book, sketching. If it is raining I will be in front of the GAP store in the mall, on the benches. This all starts at 11 am. After a half hour or so I will be moving about. Hope to see some sketchers out there!

Zoo Trip

Hello all and visitors, there is a Sketch Group Zoo Trip pending, MAX and zoo tickets will be paid by the Art Institute of Portland (this event is only open to students of the Art institute, who are interested in sketching).

This trip is scheduled for the 14th of May, that is a Wednesday, this will be an all day event so if you can't make it till later, or have to leave a little earlier that is fine!

There are only 30 slots available and i know that alteast 15 or so of them are already filled!

And let it be known you want to go.
Please, only people who are really interested in sketching and not a free ride to the zoo, a week after we have gone we hope to have a display of all the sketches from the trip installed on a wall of the school, either a hallway or perhaps the student commons.

This means we will be asking everyone who attends to send digital copies of the work they did during this trip to me, (daniel burgess) to be displayed, everything will be included, don't be shy!

People are welcomed and encouraged to work more on a piece after the trip, take it to photo shop, give it color, anything, we will put it all up there as long as it was from the zoo trip.

For the display I am thinking of a giraffe sillouet made of yarn (make it look like it was sketched) and all of the spots would be the drawings that people have done, lots of space to fill so come ready to sketch!

Man that wind was cold out there. Went to Pioneer Square but that was dead, so i went to the water front, which was fun, not many people ther either, but the boats were fun to draw and there were loads of people out on skull boats and team rowing gigs, i'l have to go down there again on a nicer day.

Hey all, Gabe won't be making it tomorrow, but i'll be out there. I'm thinking a return to Pioneer Square if its sunny, if not then i'll be at the Old Pharmacy Cafe on 21st and Glisan

woo hey, finally got off my lazy bum and got these up. It was a beautiful day, almost too warm, i didn't really get in the groove today, but it was fun, i enjoyed drawing the Camino
