Sketching in Color
Sketch from this mornings Sketch Group at Starbucks. It was nice to sit and sip on some hot chocolate during the sketch group. The Starbucks had some nice big windows facing the buildings on NW 23rd. If we meet there again next week I am going to work on sketching some of the structures past these newspaper stands. It was a fun little color study.

Sketch group will be meeting at the STARBUCKS on NW 23 and Hoyt.
The weather has been cold. I plan on buying a cup of hot chocolate and sketching people and objects on NW 23rd.
Should be a great change of scenery!
Hope to see some of you there.

The Light Rail
So I am thinking that the challenge for tomorrow till the the Max. It can be the outside, the inside, people inside, whatever. Just spend a little time on one of your sketches and post it on the blog.
Since I have somewhere I have to be at noon tomorrow, I am going to show up and hour early to the sketch group. So look for me at the usual cold weather spot, in the Pioneer Square Mall around the benches in front of the GAP store. I am thinking I will sketch for a while and then hop on the Max up to Lloyd Center and back so I can get myself a good Light Rail sketch in.
See you all tomorrow.

I jsut found a cool gig on 23rd street. If any of you are interested in getting your art work on T-shirts theres a great place: 27PDX.
Basically they have racks of blank shirts people come in and pick out a design from their library of images and get it printed on a shirt right there. You can bring your own shirts and own images, they take most file types and scan as well.
The really cool thing is that they are looking for local artists to put together a book of images entirely by local artists (for people to choose from to print), they only have two people at the moment, and are looking for more.
You get $5 (thats what i was told, i'm not the owner so double check that) from every shirt that they sell with your design on it.
No cost to submit images or have them there, you can pull them any time, they are working on getting a contract drafted.
They also show case artwork for a 25% commision (very good) This might interest some of you (Gabe). They also own a Tea Shop right upstairs from them. Definitely look into this, its an easy way to get your art work out there, nice people, flexible, friendly, and at no cost to you!
Their email is twentysevenpdx@yahoo.com Their names are: Angela and Dominic

Dan's led pile
Hey hey, happy new year all. Its good to be back, Big SSG welcome to Jesse, way to make it out first time (welcome to AI as well, hope you enjoy it).
Still slow, need to do more. The food court challenge was fun, looking forward to more things like that.
I would like to suggest next week that we try to all get at least 3-5 different poses of people. Not looking for serious details, just the over all body posture, shape, the "character" of the person. Kind of the first step, the base that you could build off of later. Capture the attitude from body posture and motion. What do you guys think?
Anyways, heres my stuff:

Sketch Challenge
It is late again on Friday night. Just wanted to remind everybody of the meeting place for the sketch group. 11am in front of the Gap store, inside the Pioneer Square Mall. Can't wait for some good weather again.
I've been thinkinga bout Lee's comments last week. I want to add a little something to this weeks sketch meet. Apart from the quick sketches I am challenging everybody to put a little time into one of their drawings and render a scene in the food Court. It could be one of the cafe's, the whole place, a group of tables with people eating - some type of food court environement, if you will. And then we can all post it along with our sketches on the blog.
See you all tomorrow!

landscape sketch
Hey guys, here's my first post. I did this desert sketch last night just for fun. About 20 minutes time so it's not too detailed.
I'm starting a project called "365" where I'm doing a painting or sketch per day and am going to be posting it to a blog. I'll post them here too just to keep things moving along.
See you all next week!
